A forest interior rather than a specimen tree — trunks crowding the frame, light broken up between them. The format is nearly square, which is unusual for a woodland scene and is what gives it the enclosed, inside-the-trees quality the title points at.
Because it is close to square it hangs easily on its own, and the smaller sizes fit the sort of wall — beside a reading chair, at the end of a corridor — where a tall panel would be too much.
