A many-petalled rosette at the centre, four lotus buds set on the vertical and horizontal axes, and four more closing the corners. That arrangement is where the cross in the name comes from — it is read from where the buds fall rather than drawn as an outline.
Cream, amber and terracotta flowers against a black ground, with olive scrollwork filling the field between them and a dark tessera border holding the square. The black ground is what makes it work: the flowers carry all the light, so the panel stays legible from across a room rather than dissolving into pattern.
