A compass rose worked to a true square. The motif has been used in mosaic for as long as the craft has existed, for a simple reason: it is radial, and radial designs resolve from the centre in every direction, which is exactly what a square panel wants.
Equally suited to a wall, an entrance floor or a tabletop. Square and centred, so it needs nothing hung alongside it to look deliberate.
