A handmade mosaic makes a lasting holiday gift because it is one of a kind, made from durable stone or glass, and can be personalized with a pet, a portrait, a place or a favorite artwork. The best choice depends on the recipient: pet lovers, art lovers, new homeowners and people of faith each have a natural fit.
This guide from iMosaicArt, a US-based maker of handmade marble and glass mosaic art, pairs mosaic ideas with the people on your list, and explains how to plan a custom piece so it arrives when you need it.
Key Takeaways
- Handmade mosaics are individually assembled from stone or glass, so no two are identical.
- Custom mosaics can reproduce a pet, a family photo, a meaningful place or a favorite painting.
- Each piece is handcrafted to order: allow 4–5 weeks of handling plus about 10 days of free, tracked shipping, so order by early November for December delivery.
- Measure the intended wall or surface before ordering so the size suits the space.
What is a good mosaic gift for a pet lover?
A pet portrait mosaic. Our animal mosaics include dogs, cats, horses and wildlife, and through our custom mosaic service you can upload an image of the recipient's own pet for our artists to work from. For cat lovers, our cat mosaic wall art is a ready-made favorite.
What should I give an art lover?
A masterpiece in stone. Mosaic reproductions of famous works translate brushstrokes into thousands of tesserae — try our Van Gogh mosaics, The Kiss by Gustav Klimt (whose gold-leaf style was itself inspired by Byzantine mosaics), or the Mona Lisa.

What is a meaningful gift for a new homeowner?
A piece that becomes part of the house: a mosaic backsplash for the kitchen, a mosaic table top for the patio, or an entryway medallion. A landmark mosaic or a custom scene of their hometown marks the milestone.

What mosaic gifts suit people of faith?
Mosaic has been a sacred art form for well over a thousand years, from early Christian basilicas to Byzantine churches. Our religious mosaics carry that tradition into the home and make thoughtful gifts for holidays, weddings, baptisms and confirmations.

Tips for choosing the right size
- Measure the wall or surface where the piece will hang, and allow space around it.
- Over a sofa or console, artwork about two-thirds of the furniture width usually looks balanced.
- For a surprise gift, a medium-sized wall piece is the safest fit for most rooms.
